A player's in-character journal entry after surviving Betrayer's Rise. Chaos, an old wound about a brother, and a very risky conversation with the god of secrets...

Entry 1

So we’re still alive… somehow?

The journey through Betrayer’s Rise was intense. I mean, literally from the moment those doors opened it was just fight after fight after fight.

Now don’t get me wrong, I love it. I live for this! The more chaos, the more adventure, the more something is definitely trying to kill us, the better.

And I’m not exactly sad about the fact that when things are at their worst, when everyone is shouting and bleeding and I’m trying to keep people standing, my mind gets quiet.

I don’t think about my brother. Which is probably a horrible thing to admit. But that’s all in the past now. Or… it’s supposed to be.

I have friends who need my help. Avandra told me so herself! I have people I’m supposed to protect, people I’m supposed to be there for, and I already have a lot to make up for.

Actually. I think I have even more to make up for now. I kinda royally fucked up. I know I shouldn’t have spoken to you.

I know that.

But by the Gods, my curiosity got the better of me. I mean, how could it not?? You were literally the god of secrets. A few decades ago, a group of heroes had to come together just to take you out, and there I was standing in your library with the chance to just…

Talk to you? Tell you my secret? Maybe some part of me thought you could take it away. Maybe some part of me just wanted to finally say it out loud to someone who didn’t matter. Someone who couldn’t look at me differently afterward.

…Though I suppose you of all people probably matter quite a bit.

Honestly, it was probably just curiosity.

Yeah.

Let’s go with that.

And now you’re literally reading this over my shoulder. I guess that isn’t exactly accurate. You’re just… there now. Somewhere. Some little piece of you, or some connection to you, or whatever the hell I managed to do.

Watching.

Listening.

Waiting to make deals and trades.

Not that I’m interested. I’m not…

Probably.

Guys, if any of you ever read this, I’m sorry for being an idiot. I really thought whatever happened would only be dangerous to me. Which, looking back, was a stupid thing to assume.

I guess I have a bit of a history of bringing misfortune to the people around me…

That sounded worse written down.

But I promise I’ll make this right. Whatever I did, whatever you want from me, whatever comes because I couldn’t leave well enough alone—I’ll fix it.

Just… don’t give up on me.

Please.

I’ll even take that deal if it means I can help.
