The Hand Behind the Dragon

Onyx is defeated. The Discs of Mishakal are recovered. For a moment, there is reason to hope. But victory has only raised a more terrifying question. If Onyx was merely an instrument, then who — or what — was holding the leash?

A dragon lies defeated. It was a terrible battle. This foe was far beyond anything any of us could have hoped to defeat, but with the power of the Staff on our side, it seems as if no situation is truly hopeless, as if the staff is a physical manifestation of hope and good tidings. What terrible and primordial power does it wield that it can so decisively vanquish such unfathomable evil, and crumble to dust these ancient stones that saw so much turmoil before it.

But now what? We retrieved the discs just like we were told to, but what next? How do we use them? And for what purpose? I guess we should return it to Mishakal’s eidolon, hopefully Mishakal’s spirit is still there but, even if we find a purpose for these, a much bigger question still looms over us: Onyx, is but one dragon – and from what we have gathered, powerful and ancient as she may be, is not a powerful member of the hierarchy of the power we are facing. She might have ties to the High Seekers, but she is not one of them – she answers to a much more powerful, more secretive, organization. I shudder at the thought that this Onyx is but an instrument in this story. That is the question indeed.

Who’s hand holds Onyx’s leash?

These thoughts hung heavily in Jallarzi’s chest as she followed her friends through the ruins of Xak Tsoroth
